Year 7 Newsletter – 14th April 2017

Welcome back after the spring break, I do hope you had a relaxing time over the holidays.

The last week of term seemed to go so quickly with the “Into the woods” performance. I was ever so proud of the year 7 cast members who were amazing on the stage. Well done to you all.

Also on the last day of term saw the students involved in the rewards assembly. Below is a list of all the winners. There were also many housepoint winners who had been given copies of their certificates in form time and the gold winners were presented with their certificates during this assembly.

Following on from the break the students are now back into the swing of things for their final term of the academic year. This week they started the highly anticipated form challenge with 7A taking an early lead. I have enclosed a copy of the quiz at the end of the newsletter – why not have a go yourselves.

One last thing is that the booking system for making appointments is now open – please see an email that you should’ve received from school, I look forward to seeing you on either night.

View from the Classroom

Ms Kilpatrick has shared with us some photos taken of 7C’s tremendous volcanoes – well done 7C.

Student Reporters

7A had their turn at writing a student report, thank you for sharing your classroom experiences.

Joshua Charnesky - Music

The music exams were hard but all students made it through the exams. At the last lesson we have been using garage band and sambals just for fun. And the next term even more surprises are coming closer. A lot of kids are excited to finish the term 2 music exams. But you need to study more to pass the term 3 exams and the teachers know that everyone is going to do better than ever.

Phoebe McLuskie – Geography

In Geography we have been studying earthquakes and tsunamis. It has been really fun. We learnt about The Indian Ocean Tsunami, The Japanese Tsunami and the San Andreas Fault. We also learnt about the Kobe earthquake. We did a Venn diagram for things that happened in The Indian Ocean Tsunami and The Japanese Tsunami to compare them. My favourite part was when we played a game called reader, writer, runner. In this game there were teams of three and one person was a reader, one person was a writer, and one was a runner. The runner ran up to Mrs Cuskin to retrieve a piece of paper with a question. The reader would try to find the answer in the text we were given and then the writer wrote the answer down. The process repeated until you had completed all the questions. It was great fun.

Also below are reports from Zainab Rizvi, Zein Mansour and Yoko Iida.

Next time we are back to 7B for their fortnightly classroom update.

Upcoming dates are:

15th April - SISAC Football 7-a-side Tournaments SISAC D2 Badminton Tournament @ SSIS Suzhou U13 & U15 Netball & Rugby Fixtures

18th & 20th April – KS3 Academic Review Evening.

22nd April - U13 & U15 Netball & Rugby Fixtures

Have a wonderful weekend.
