In English, the children will continue reading ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again’, exploring prediction and characterisation, as well as looking at the language used to portray these. We will be returning to some of the movie stills to broaden our vocabulary to describe vehicles in motion, as well as using clues from the text in a dramatic context in order to make predictions and inferences. Towards the end of the week, as we approach a key event in the plot, we will be writing newspaper articles, imagining ourselves as eyewitnesses at the scene.
Focus: Make characters inferences, make predictions based on language, imitate an author’s style, and write in a specific genre.
In Mathematics, we will continue looking at Mathematical Movements, with a particular focus on reflections. We will be reflecting shapes on a grid, and will begin to look at reflecting shapes across the four quadrants. We will be describing the reflected shapes in terms of their mirror line, and in Ms. Preston’s set we will do some basic work on naming the line of the equation. We will try different techniques for checking our reflections, such as using mirrors or measuring the distance from the mirror line.
Key vocabulary: reflection, congruent, axis, transformation, equation
In topic, the children will be designing and imagining themselves managers of their own tourist resort. They will then do some research on the history of Xian, and create a tourist brochure for visitors to the historical sites of the city. They will then find out about other famous resorts, and map out a timeline showing their development through history. In Guidance, students will continue to prepare for the residential trip to Suzhou, considering how to look out for one another, behave appropriately, and manage the many emotions such an exciting trip can entail!
