This week saw our year 10 & 12 students take part in a webinar hosted by Juilliard and featuring their Composer in residence, Sean Shepherd. This webinar was a great way for students to probe the mind of an actual composer. This also provided an amazing opportunity to be the first ever, in the world, to hear his brand new composition based on the life of Harry Houdini. This composition is for three instruments, clarinet, violin and ‘cello, and contained some interesting movements, Water Escape, and Two Mirrors to name but two. After discussing how the composition came to life and how Sean put it all together, the students had time to ask questions. These proved to be thought provoking and interesting. Sean himself was quite impressed by the insightfulness of our students and their desire to learn more about him as a composer and how he goes about his job. In all, this proved to be a very inspirational webinar, hopefully, more will follow!
I am pleased to announce that during May we will have our next Alumni visit, this time from an actor. He will be working with some of the Primary students and hopefully will give them some tips for their own Junior School production which is fast approaching. Also in May, we have the Stage and Screen Concert (23rd May). More details to follow about that in due course so stayed tuned!
