Information and Reminders
Now that the weather is becoming warmer, please could you ensure that all children bring a clearly labelled water bottle and hat to school. If your child requires sun cream please apply before school.
Our current topic ‘Our World’ will conclude on Monday 21st May. We are inviting parents into school on this day to help create bottle rockets as part of our exit point! Parents should arrive at their child’s classroom at 1:30pm. We look forward to seeing you.
Thank you for all the materials and resources sent in for the STEAM day. The children had a great time creating their own items using the items provided.
Next week, our Rainbow Review choir will be taking part in the Stage and Screen Performance. We hope to see parents there.

Stars of the Week
Year 1A – Natasha Zarea for producing an excellent piece of written work about Shanghai
Year 1B – Marten Lo for making improvements in all areas of his learning
Year 1C – Shirley Shen for counting objects in multiples of 2, 5 and 10
In English, the children will be reading the story ‘The Snail and the Whale.’ They will follow these characters on their journey around the world as they lead them into their new IPC unit ‘Hooray Let’s go on Holiday.’ The children will create their own clay snails and then write a set of instructions explaining what they did.
Focus: spell words containing each of the 40+ phonemes already taught, join clauses using conjunctions, use verbs and to use time words
In Mathematics, the children will solve subtraction problems. They will represent and use number bonds related to subtraction facts within 20 as well as identify doubles and near doubles. The children will be encouraged to investigate number patterns.
Key Vocabulary: one hundred, one more, one less, number bonds/ number facts, fact family, doubles, near doubles
Next week, the children will begin their new IPC Topic ‘Hooray let’s go on holiday.’ They will identify what a continent is by creating different collages to represent the seven continents of the world. The children will discuss the different features of each continent and think about what type of animals and people live there.
