Message from Primary

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful time we have had in Early Years and Primary this week – especially today with our Early Years and Infant Sports Days. It was a very hot and humid day, but all of our students still did the very best they could and definitely displayed fantastic team spirit representing their houses.

Our Nursery and Reception students began this morning’s sporting activities, with a range of balancing, jumping and throwing activities – as well as many more. They must have been practicing because I was amazed at the accuracy with which some of our younger children could throw and aim at a target. We certainly have some sports stars in the making.

Our Year 1 and Year 2 students then took to the field to show us what they could do, and again we were witness to some fantastic displays of sporting talent and team work. It was a pleasure to hear, at both events, the cheering of our parents, encouraging all of the children to try their best and I know all of the teachers, myself included, thoroughly appreciated all of our families who were able to attend today as it means a lot to our students. A big thank you also needs to go to our team of teachers and Teaching Assistants for leading the activities, our Year 8 students for supporting the children, and of course our PE department, in particular Mr Keenan, for running the two events.

Don’t forget it will be the turn of our Junior children to have their Sports Day on Monday 19th June.

Before that however, our Juniors have got two very special performance to prepare for. Next Wednesday and Thursday sees the culmination of several weeks of line-learning and rehearsing, and we will finally get to see the Junior production ‘Porridge’. I have received ‘insider information’ that it promises to be a wonderful show with some well-known characters making an appearance, but in a slightly different guise.

Our Year 6 students most definitely deserve some respite, as they have worked extremely hard this week on their end of Key Stage 2 SATs tests. The tests in Reading, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, and Mathematics are an opportunity for our students to show us what they know in English and Maths; subjects that they will continue to study throughout their secondary education. Whilst we place equal importance on our ongoing assessment throughout the year, the SATs are the first formal tests that some of our children have sat, and provide the students with the experience of formalized testing – something they will experience more regularly as they now enter secondary school.

And that brings us to the end of the week. With only two more to go until the end of the school year we are busy fitting in school trips, parties, assemblies and exit points. Keep checking Class Dojo for event updates to ensure you don’t miss out on anything happening before the end of the school year.

Have a lovely weekend.
