English

In English, the children will write a recount about their trip to the sculpture park. The children will be given a country to investigate from one of the seven continents. They will plan a holiday based on this information and write a description about what kind of items they will need to take on their holiday.

Focus: spell words containing each of the 40+ phonemes already taught, use different adjectives for effects, use capital letters, full stops and exclamation marks to demarcate sentences, five senses

Mathematics

In Mathematics, the children will use the comparative vocabulary of mass and weight. Linked to the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs,’ the children will make fruit salads for the pigs. They will need to read scales and weigh the different foods. The children will then be given a problem which will involve them halving and doubling ingredients.

Key vocabulary: mass, weight, heavy, light, heavier, lighter, full, empty, double, half, quarter, order, compare

Topic

Next week, the children will use the internet to research and explore the language of a focus country. They will be encouraged to find out how to say specific words and phrases and then share with the rest of the class. They will investigate the animals, food and traditions of each country.
