Our 5 to 11-year-olds follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Focused on the development of the whole child, the PYP is an inquiry-based curriculum that nurtures caring, curious, reflective, and resilient global learners. It also develops core literacy, numeracy and social skills.

Through immersive themes and topics, our students gain an understanding of how different subjects relate to each other, as well as to the world around them.

six transdisciplinary themes

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Amman Academy is defined by six transdisciplinary themes of international significance.

Through these themes, your child will develop essential skills, knowledge, and understanding in science, the arts, maths, languages, social studies, and physical, social, and personal education. They’ll also learn how to apply their learning to a range of situations. 
The six transdisciplinary themes:

  • Where we are in place and time.
  • How we express ourselves.
  • How the world works.
  • How we organise ourselves.
  • Sharing the planet.

how we structure learning

units of inquiry

The six transdisciplinary themes are taught through cross-curricular modules of study known as Units of Inquiry. Every year, each age group follows one Unit of Inquiry per theme.

The units allow for in-depth investigations into important ideas, identified by our experienced teachers, and require a high level of student involvement. The units typically last for six weeks.

Primary students assemble!
Weekly assemblies bring each grade group together. After singing the national anthem, students take part in activities ranging from meditation to light exercise. Our assemblies are the perfect platform for a celebration, too, where we recognise every child's talents, achievements, and contributions.

Real-world learning
Our primary teachers inspire our students to excel, as they bring core subject learning to life through real-world experiences. In our science labs, your child will explore the functions of the respiratory and circulatory systems using 3D models, while in maths, they’ll analyse data linked to the migration of refugees.
