tHE IB DIPLOMA AT aMMAN aCADEMY

Your child’s International Baccalaureate (IB) school journey at Amman Academy will culminate in the prestigious IB Diploma. The two-year Diploma is an academically challenging, rewarding, and highly respected qualification. It develops the depth of subject knowledge and breadth of skills our students need to excel now and in the future.

The Diploma also offers choice and flexibility. At Amman Academy, your child will choose the specialist IB subjects they follow, their Extended Essay topic, and a variety of Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programmes. These will be based around their strengths, talents, and ambitions.

THE IB DIPLOMA EXPLAINED

The IB Diploma has two fundamental strands: specialist subject groups and the core programme.

Your child will study six IB subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and Creative Arts. Three of these groups are taken at higher level and three at standard level.  

 

They’ll also complete the core programme – Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – to achieve their full Diploma.  

The IB core programme:
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): a course that explores critical thinking, giving students an understanding of how we learn.
  • The Extended Essay: a 4,000-word independent research project focusing on a specific subject or topic a student is passionate about.
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): a range of activities that nurture creativity and wellbeing, and give our students the opportunity to contribute to the community.

CAREATIVITY, ACTIVITY, SERVICE

Our Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme is the perfect counterbalance to the academic rigours of the IB Diploma. As well as providing opportunities for your child to do what they love and hone their skills, CAS will build their character, enable them to make a difference, and give them a real sense of accomplishment.

This element focuses on activities that stimulate creativity and creative thinking, from music, drama, and dance to photography, debate, and the visual arts.

Activity
Your child will take part in physical activities – expeditions, trips, or sports, for example – that not only contribute to a healthy lifestyle, but also complement their academic studies.

Service
A critical aspect of the programme, 'Service' encourages students to take part in voluntary activities that benefit their development and support the community. Here, these might include social projects, environmental initiatives, or working with local children.
