Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.
Year 12 Dylan is putting the spotlight on Men's Health raising awareness & funds for The Movember Foundation. Let's support Dylan & his BIS Houston volunteers to make a difference for a project that will help change our world for the better! Read more from our Year 12 student here:
I believe Movember is important because men’s health issues are often overlooked. Furthermore, I believe that often men do not talk about their mental health enough.
* Men account for 4 out of every 5 suicides, and on average 103 men will take their own life every day in the US.
* 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
* Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in young American men.
For my project, year 12 students have volunteered to be part of my Movember team. We will be growing out a moustache / beard to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues because men are dying too young, and mostly for preventable reasons.
The goal is to raise $5000, and all donations are made directly to the Movember Foundation. The Movember Foundation funds various projects that focus on men’s health issues, such as funding clinicians to better understand Men’s mental health, biomedical research on prostate cancer, and more.
