• What’s the admissions process at BIS Houston?

• How will you help my child settle into BIS Houston?

  Our warm community, including our experienced teachers, help students feel welcome. As an international school, we understand the worries children may have when moving to a new city or country, and we know the best way to help them settle in. Students are assigned a 'buddy' who can help them navigate everything there is to know at BIS Houston.

  We offer many outstanding learning experiences in and beyond the classroom – including numerous extracurricular activities – that help our students immediately connect with peers over common interests, build fulfilling friendships, and develop strong relationships with teachers.

• What accreditations and affiliations does BIS Houston hold?

  The British International School of Houston is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC); Apple (as an ‘Apple Distinguished School’); the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) office to offer Cambridge IGCSE courses; and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

  The International Baccalaureate (IB)’s year-long accreditation process, in particular, is special because it means our school is fully prepared to deliver excellent preparation for the IB. This includes the preparation of resources; teachers’ training to deliver the IB-specific curriculum; and an authorisation visit.

  Each accreditation includes a highly recognised curriculum and approach to teaching and learning; student assessments appropriate to the age group; professional development for teachers; and a process of school authorisation and evaluation.

• Does BIS Houston have qualified teaching staff?

  Yes, as part of Nord Anglia Education’s international standards of excellence, BIS Houston selects only the world’s best educators to teach at our school.

  80% of our teachers are global talents who have been recruited internationally for their excellence, and 100% have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or the professional Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) certification that showcases their rigorous level of training. Our students benefit from these highly experienced educators who actively apply our teaching approach, curriculum methodology, and assessment procedures to shape our students’ preparation. International Baccalaureate (IB) teachers, additionally, are certified and trained by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) – making them experts in teaching the IB-specific curriculum for all our students’ success.
