MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN) AT BIS HOUSTON

BIS Houston MUN will be held on campus from 6-8 April 2022. Each committee will allow up to 20 participants, we encourage early registration.

The BIS Houston conference is designed to challenge participants to demonstrate global perspectives by collaborating with other delegates in the community to gain knowledge around world topics. The 2022 theme of Uniting our World Through Pride and Respect inspires the focus of the eight committees. Delegates will be able to choose their level based on previous MUN experiences: beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

Delegates may also represent either a country or individual on their chosen committee listed below. Students will learn how to recognise changes in our societies and overcome challenges within our surroundings in order to build a stable future for generations to come.

Below are the committees students may participate in as delegates:

• Commission on Status of Women (CSW)

  • Topic A - Reproductive Rights

• United Nations Security Council (UNSC)

  • Topic A - Indo-China Border Dispute

• UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

  • Topic A - Building Trade Capacity

• UN Environmental Programme (UNEP)

  • Topic A - Addressing the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

• UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)

  • Topic A - Preserving Indigenous Languages

• United Nation Historical Security Council

  • Topic A - Separation of Germany 1949

• World Health Organization (WHO)

  • Topic A - Vaccinations in Developing Countries

• United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

  • Topic A - Rights of Refugees Fleeing Afghanistan

Topic B for all committees will be a crisis and introduced during the conference.
