Outstanding experiences

Transformative learning opportunities – both in and beyond the classroom – will prepare your child to take on the world.

At the British Vietnamese International School (BVIS) Hanoi, there are no limits to your child’s education. Every day, everywhere, our students immerse themselves in experiences that encourage them to be curious, creative, and ambitious, all with the support of world-class teachers, coaches, and our pastoral team.

This will lay the foundations for your child to do what they love, take on new challenges, and discover the world around them. They’ll do this on life-changing trips in Vietnam and overseas, at nearly 100 extra-curricular clubs, and through exclusive collaborations with UNICEF, The Juilliard School, and MIT.

Outstanding Experiences | BVIS Hanoi - 04 - Feature Cards Pattern - Creativity and Culture

At BVIS Hanoi, the learning doesn’t stop when lessons end. Our extensive enrichment programme, which features an ever-changing selection of sporting, creative, and service activities, is designed to nurture your child’s talents and introduce them to new passions.

Sport is for everyone at BVIS Hanoi, and we make sure all our students experience the excitement and growth that come with getting active. We offer a broad range of team and individual activities – from football and basketball to ice-skating, swimming, and bowling – where your child can keep fit, develop their skills, and enjoy healthy competition.

Service, sustainability, and wellbeing

At BVIS Hanoi, we want our students to feel good and do good. Mindful activities like colouring, creative writing, and poetry boost wellbeing, while learning a musical instrument exercises the brain and provides a real sense of achievement. Your child can also take on leadership roles in school, become an ‘eco warrior’, and support one of our many community service projects.

Science and technology

Extraordinary science, technology, and engineering activities spark our students’ imaginations and instil a lifetime love of new discoveries. In our STEAM space and science labs, students of all ages learn to code, design video games, and build robots. They also take part in the MIT Challenge, putting their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to the test.

Through the world’s leading youth achievement programme, our secondary students take part in adventurous activities, set personal goals and challenges, and get involved in community service projects that make a real difference. As they progress through Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, your child will grow in confidence, grow more resilience, and learn more about themselves and others.

Arts and crafts

An array of artistic opportunities give every child the space, medium, and time to express themselves. Our students can travel the world from the comfort of their classroom at our cultural colouring club, and shape spectacular sculptures at our clay modelling activity. There’s lots of fun to be had at our card design, drawing, calligraphy, and creative Lego clubs, too.

Creativity flourishes at clubs that provide unique opportunities for students to think ‘outside the box’. These include discussing and seeking solutions to pressing global issues at our debate and Model United Nations groups. Your child’s imagination will shine at school production and set design clubs, too.

Global expeditions

Our incredible citizenship trip to Arusha, Tanzania teaches students about global responsibility and sustainability, and the important role we play in looking after our planet. Working with locals on a variety of projects, students develop a sense of independence, increase their understanding of the world, and learn the importance of being part of a community.

The personal challenge expedition in Les Martinets, Switzerland, encourages our students to push themselves to their limits. Set in the beautiful Swiss Alps, students hike through the mountains and take on a series of challenges. Students also learn important skills – like cooking and working together under pressure – while creating treasured memories that will stay with them forever.

Every year, a group of BVIS Hanoi students take part in workshops, seminars, and debates at the United Nations’ (UN) High Level Political Forum and Model UN event in New York, USA. Our students collaborate with staff, contribute to committees, and influence world leaders.

Residential trips

Awe-inspiring overnight trips – both in Vietnam and overseas – enhance the physical, emotional, and social development of our students.

Residential trips

Your child will join their teachers and friends on exciting residential trips that teach them about themselves and others, and bring classroom learning to life. Each age-appropriate experience encourages teamwork, empathy towards others, and builds self-confidence.

In primary, our younger students visit the Thai Hai ecotourism village, where they learn about regional heritage and traditions. They also spend time in Mai Chau, an idyllic rural area surrounded by mountains, and Ba Vi, a 10,000-hectare national park. In secondary, trips range from cultural explorations in Hue to iconic adventures in Ha Long Bay and Cuc Phuong, the oldest national park in Vietnam.

Our students also take part in sporting, academic, and artistic residentials through our membership of FOBISIA. These range from drama festivals and poetry competitions to sporting events across Southeast Asia. They provide a unique opportunity for students to compete against other schools, learn the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship, and create friendships across the globe.

Days out
Our students embrace Vietnamese history, culture, and traditions through memorable activities and on day trips around Hanoi.
Days out

A variety of exciting trips complement our curriculum, providing real-world experiences that inspire a love of learning.

Our early years and primary children connect with nature in local parks and forests, learning about biodiversity, plants, and animals. Their curiosity is piqued on STEAM trips to museums and recycling centres, too.

In secondary, our students make a real difference in our community – and see the tangible impact of their actions – by visiting the Khuong Dinh club for older people and working with a local floating village community. Subject-specific activities – like drama workshops and humanities trips to the Hanoi Botanical Gardens – provide immersive, practical learning experiences. And events organised by our careers and university guidance team, including university fairs and degree option workshops, ensure our students have the time and space to prepare for the future.

We know that students who feel safe, happy, and included will achieve their best. And that’s why your child’s health and wellbeing will always come first.

In 2022, our comprehensive programme of student support was awarded the Wellbeing Award for Schools by the National Children’s Bureau and Optimus Education. We’re incredibly proud to be the first school in Vietnam to receive this accolade.

Here, healthy habits are carefully embedded into every student’s day. These include our ‘five ways to wellbeing’ morning activities and the ‘daily mile’, where students get moving for 12 minutes. Everything we do is driven by our highly qualified pastoral team, who actively help our students to overcome challenges, bounce-back from adversity, and look after their physical and mental health.

With so many opportunities for leadership, outreach, and charity work, our students learn the value of – and achieve a real sense of fulfilment from – helping others.

Your child will implement real change through hands-on activities that benefit our community. These include city clean-ups, shoebox collections for families in need, and our collaborative renovation project with a local floating village. In-school leadership opportunities, including our Student Council, build our students’ confidence, as well as developing a host of transferable skills.

Your child will also learn about the challenges facing our planet – and take action to address them. They’ll do this through our exclusive collaboration with UNICEF.
