Why the Student Council at Northbridge is much more than a leadership badge - it is a service

The Northbridge International School Cambodia Student Council (STUCO) consists of members who are not only willing to lead the student body but who believe that small actions impact our community. More than a leadership badge, STUCO is a service. Their purpose is not limited to representing the student body during board meetings and leading assemblies, there is much more our students do to provide the best service to the school.

STUCO meets every week to discuss various student concerns and community needs, and each member represents the voice of their classmates and friends. Through these voices STUCO is able to provide activities or events that enhance students’ lives within the school. Everyone has his own share of work and the success of an event depends on each and every member’s contribution. Teamwork is very essential.

Every year, STUCO organizes various events.

  1. Welcome back activities to start the school year with good school spirit and to honor new students.
  2. Family picnic fun activities for the Northbridge community to enjoy.
  3. Winter Formal
  4. Spirit Week
  5. Amazing races and challenges at the end of every semester - a whole school event
  6. Fund-raising activities such as Valentine’s packages delivery for charity.
  7. Awareness events

This time around, STUCO is busy planning the Walk-A-Thon event on 18 October. Apart from it being a fun event where students participate in the Mental Health Awareness day, they also have the opportunity to help a community through sponsored laps. All proceeds will go to the Rabbit School, an organization that supports underprivileged Cambodian students with mental and physical disabilities.

Being a STUCO member may mean extra work, but it gives our students the opportunity to gain valuable lessons that are not acquired from textbooks. They learn how to be creative and balanced in order to provide the best service they can offer to the student body. It is with high hopes that Northbridge students will continue to develop as invaluable leaders and citizens.
