Léman students in November 2019 visited the Animals Asia site in Chengdu, China. Animals Asia is a foundation for animal welfare to rescue endangered moon bears from bear bile farms in China and Vietnam. After the students visited, they started work on creating awareness for the bears. They developed a proposal that they sent to the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) for a grant of 1,000 USD to adopt a moon bear for a year and provide toys to the bears at the site to give the bears joy and happiness. ACAMIS believed “it was a thoughtful and well-presented proposal to help protect endangered species, especially in Sichuan Province where many of the last bears are located.” They granted the students money to help support the students’ cause. This is a great example of students at Léman showing compassion and empathy for others while being ambitious to support and protect the environment around them. They also hope to collaborate with more schools and raise greater awareness about animal protection, and hope to work with other Nord Anglia schools to support the cause.
