Counselling Services at LIS

Patricia Williams
Patricia Williams

In the Primary School, counselling is available within the Special Education Needs (SEN) department to help students with a variety of concerns. Students may visit the counsellor either for a regularly scheduled session or on a more informal drop-in basis as needed. We work with students on a range of topics including self-regulation and executive functioning, self-esteem issues, inter-personal concerns, building friendships, and more. Teachers and the SEN team also meet regularly to discuss concerns and ways teachers can support their students in the classroom. Students who would like to meet with the counsellor can tell their classroom teachers who will contact Ms. Patricia Williams. Students can also come directly to Ms. Patricia in room J105 to schedule an appointment. If parents have any questions or concerns about the counselling process or how to help their child, please feel free to contact Ms. Patricia Williams at

Katie Pass

Mrs. Katie Pass is the Secondary School's Counsellor for Social and Emotional needs.  Students can make appointments for one-to-one counselling sessions either at break or lunchtimes.  In some situations, Katie will see students during lesson times depending upon the severity of the situation.  Parents who have concerns about their child are also welcome and encouraged to contact Katie to discuss issues and make appointments.

Many teenagers face challenges as they develop into early adulthood and often need someone who will listen and help them process their emotions to make good choices and decisions.  It is important that students feel that they can talk and express themselves in confidence knowing that they are supported.  Naturally, there are pressure points in teenagers' lives such as approaching examinations, assessments and assignments which can lead to feeling overwhelmed and stressed.  Students know that they can see the Counsellor to seek additional guidance in managing their time more effectively to strive for a healthy life balance.

With the impact of Covid-19, young people have been affected with anxiety and many insecurities and, as a school, we work closely with students to ensure that they feel safe and comfortable in their environment both in and out of the classroom.  The Counsellor has the capacity to spend additional time with students talking and working through such issues to reduce stress and put in place coping strategies.

There are occasions when teachers will indicate to the Counsellor changes or concerns in a child's behaviour.  In these situations, Katie will ask the student to come and see her to discuss further.  As a community, we work hard to ensure students' well-being is being catered so that they can thrive and flourish as young people.
