Chinese New Year Cards

We held a whole school Inter-House competition to start the school term, setting the tone for an exciting celebration for The Year of the Tiger 2022!

All students from Year 1 – 11 spent their Art lessons designing and making their unique cards. Our teacher Ms. Huskisson prepared inspiring images and examples were prepared for the different age groups. Each group had a medium in which to work, designated to them, together with 1 or 2 of the Art Elements.  This was aimed at embedding their learning from previous units. The Year 8 classes for example focused on the Art Elements of shape or line using black and red card as this was a development of their woodblock unit earlier in the school year when their designs were either focused on shape or line. The Year 9 students revisited watercolour painting, refining their recently acquired skills.

Ms. Huskisson spent a lot of time with the students during the whole process, similarly to last year when we had the cards-design House competition. Ms. Huskisson has been at Léman since 2017. She has a wealth of over 23 years'  international teaching experience. As a passionate art teacher, she not only supports her students in their art classes, but also successfully supported students through to Art colleges such as the New York Fashion Institute.

The cards have an important addition; supporting charities. At Léman we have 4 charities we support all year; Animals Asia, Save our Planet, Hopeful Hearts and WAWU. Students integrated these charities through logos and other representation in the card design. The money raised through the sale of these cards will go to our 4 worthy charities.

The stunning 8 winning cards will be professionally printed, after some magical layout designing by June in the MAC team, and then sold by our students during Break time, either individually or as a set.
