World book day
April 23rd is celebrated around the world as World Book Day. On this day, children in schools worldwide celebrate their love of books and reading. At LIS, last Tuesday, we organized a variety of activities for the children to do just that. In the morning, we were met with the sight of hundreds of our students parading around the school dressed up as their favourite book characters. There were prizes for best-dressed in each grade, chosen by esteemed members of our administration team. Following the parade, we had shared story reading from parent and teacher volunteers in a variety of different languages, including: English, Chinese, Korean, German, Tagalog, Russian, Hebrew Urdu and Spanish. There was also an opportunity for the children to swap some of their pre-loved books with their friends as well as buy some beautiful brand new books from an official seller. There was such an amazing buzz around campus with the kids expressing their excitement and love for reading! Thanks must go out to all the World Book Day committee, Ms Heidi our librarian, our official judges and our reading volunteers. Let’s hope the enthusiasm for books and reading lasts all the way until next year!
