Students were given the opportunity to take part in a collaborative project fusing movement with art. Students explored the concept of performance art with reference to artist ‘Heather Hansen’. Hansen works to create kinetic art on large scale canvases. She imprints her body in to the canvas through performing a series of movements over and over to create organic forms full of motion and dynamic energy.

Students worked with our dance specialist Mr Spencer to explore their bodies moving in space, to echo the same processes used by the artist. These exercises looked to inform work for student IB art projects and to widen student knowledge of mixed medium projects. Students collaborated to explore the physicality of the body, symmetrical designs, the accumulation of energy and how this is then imprinted in to the floor.

Students were able to observe the body moving in space and then explore sketching to capture an essence of motion and the architecture of the body. The dialogue between the ‘moving body’ and the ‘artist’ is something that this project has been centered around. We are proud of how open our students were in their responses to these creative challenges!
