Fantastic responses from our Primary students in the Performing Arts Week

This week was Performing Arts Week in Primary, and every student took part in a day of live workshops and challenges developing their singing, rhythm, dance and creative thinking skills. 

Our Early Years students have been taking part in a daily sing with Ms Kirk since we began virtual school but this week they focussed on music and movement and worked with Ms Bevan to learn some new dance skills. Their singing and dance sessions took them on adventures into space, on a wander around a garden and even to a teddy bear’s picnic! 

Phase 1 spent a day exploring their IPC topic through Performing Arts, with Year 1 focussing on Dinosaurs and Year 2 on Plants and Flowers. Students learnt yoga dances and action songs and considered the different sounds made by objects that you hit and shake.  

Phase 2 had a fantastic day developing their singing, rhythm and movement skills, looking at fashion in Year 3 and Ancient Egypt in Year 4. Ms Bevan taught Year 3 the basics of how to vogue and they performed a dance to the iconic Madonna song of the same name. Year 4 transformed their own names in dancing hieroglyphs and set their routines to Walk Like an Egyptian. In their singing session with Ms Howarth, Year 4 learnt a song about Tutanamun whilst Year 3 learnt a number all about clothes. 

Year 5 spent their Performing Arts day developing their creative skills through a project about the Olympics. They worked on Found Sounds with Ms Kirk, considering the unique qualities different instruments have and using this understanding of timbre to find objects in their home to replicate the sound of different types of drum. 

Year 6 have been working on a top-secret project for their upcoming assembly and we can’t wait for you to see the finished results soon! 

The students were so enthusiastic about their learning and produced some fantastic responses to the challenges they were set. Well done to everybody for a fantastic week of learning!
