The Year 3 and 4 gala saw all of the students competing in a series of fun water races including an underwater swim, a ball race and even a horse race! There was also a choice for some swimmers to race in a 25m freestyle down the full length of the swimming pool. It was a fun and very noisy afternoon where the students showed fantastic team spirit and sportsmanship, cheering so loudly for their team and all the other students. In a very close house competition, Dalat were the eventual winners lead by some fantastic swimming from Sally in 4B.
The Year 5 and 6 gala offered the students more competitive swimming races with a chance to race 25m in all four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. There were also a few fun races and we were again impressed by the sportsmanship and the ‘never give up’ attitude shown by all our students. The highlight of the gala was the team relay to end the event. The competition was fierce but friendly all the way through and after some excellent swimming and some very close finishes the eventual winners were again Dalat!
Thank you to Mr. Slight for organising these events and teaching the children to swim. He commented that, ‘Swimming is both an essential life skill and an extremely fun activity. At BVIS we aim to teach all our students both the techniques that could save their own life and the enjoyment that can be had when swimming’.
Congratulations again to Dalat for winning both events and please always remember the water safety lessons if your family go swimming to cool down in this extremely hot weather.
