World Scholar Cup at Yale University Update Day 1 + 2

Friday, November 8: Day 1

Today was the opening ceremony of the competition and our first experience on traditional yellow school buses. We had a lecture from a professor at Yale in the historic Woolsey Hall, with students from all over the world. We then were given special entry to a college at Yale, which is similar to the house system at BVIS, where the students sleep and socialise. We were even invited to join them for lunch and it was like being in Harry Porter.

We went to the Scholar’s scavenge (which was like a treasure hunt around the campus) and saw real live alpacas!

The temperature was -4 degrees but it did not stop us from enjoying our first day.

Saturday November 9th: Day 2

Today was one of our most important days as we were debating! We met really early in our formal clothes and wrapped up very warm as this morning was -7 degrees (no snow yet but we remain hopeful for Tuesday as the prediction for snow is now 90%!). Today we completed both collaborative writing as well as the debate round and we navigated ourselves with our special maps. We finished in style and celebrated with a team photo with a very special flag! Tomorrow we look forward to the famous Scholar’s Bowl round.
