International Winter festival

This year’s International Winter festival, a Primary combined arts show, was a triumph for the students and their Specialist teachers. The theme for this year’s Winter show was ‘Christmas around the world’ in collaboration with International week. The Primary dance studio, where the children had previously studied for the dance performances, was turned into an art gallery. Every child in the whole school had a piece of work on display and, with the ambient stage lighting, the studio was turned into a forest of colour. After the parents had walked around the art gallery they were welcomed into the Sports hall where each year group showed the various skills they had been working on in music and dance class this term.

Our year 3 dance students had been studying Juilliard practitioner Merce Cunningham and explored the idea of things in the Brazilian Rainforest. Our year 4 dancers have explored the work of Rennie Harries, another of the Juilliard core practitioners. Our Juilliard ECA group also performed a piece of original choreography, adding to the creative and diverse performances of the morning.

The plethora of instruments from Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, recorder, Ocarina, Drum, Violin, Ukulele, Guitar, Piano and Vocal harmonies are a testament to how hard and enthusiastically our students worked this term. The whole school joined in singing with our brand new BVIS Orchestra, conducted by Xu Pham from the National Symphony orchestra. Many of the songs performed in the show were also sang again at Melia Hotel – lighting ceremony that evening.
