Outstanding IGCSE and A-Levels Results of BVIS Hanoi students

Students, teachers, parents and school community members at The British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi (BVIS) are celebrating today thanks to students achieving exceptional results in the International A Level and IGCSE examinations for the 2018/19 academic school year.

Students at BVIS achieved a pass rate of 100% in A Levels this year, an improvement on last year, despite there being slightly fewer examinees than in 2018. This year’s pass rate widens the gap between our bilingual school and other schools in the UK. This result also showcases the difference that Nord Anglia Education schools bring to students’ academic results.

In IGCSEs, the numbers of students taking the examinations rose by 83% from the previous year.  Pass rates in 2019 of 98% for A* to E grades were considerably higher than the 67.3% pass rate in the UK, with the school’s results broadly in line with the results of the previous year.  37% of all entries were graded at A* or A, compared to 20.8% in the UK.  Five students achieved all A* and A grades with one student achieving A* grades in every paper.  95% of those taking Mathematics one year early achieved the top grade.

The 100% A Level pass rate is outstanding. This cohort itself was smaller than the previous year, with nearly 60% of this year’s examinees attending the school for under 2 years. In IGCSEs, the huge increase in the numbers of students taking these examinations shows how important this qualification is to students and parents and how they value the high quality education that is on offer in preparing students for the next stage.  47 students of this year’s IGCSE cohort saw top grades in over 50% of their papers.

Kim YeonOo

Kim YeonOo in Year 11 is celebrating her IGCSE result with nine (9) A* for all 9 subjects she studied. YeonOo said: “What I most appreciate when looking back the whole IGCSE time is how I strongly commit with the objectives and how my teachers inspire me to achieve the higher potential of myself. I can clearly feel the extra care I receive, not just about my progress but also about my feeling at school”.

Graduating student, Nguyen Cong Minh Duc who completed Year 13 in June of this year, said his results of one A* and two A grades have secured him a university place at the prestigious British University, Imperial College London to study Biological Science. Nguyen Cong Minh Duc said: “I was excited when I opened my results as I realised my ambition to go to this university had been achieved. I am looking forward to moving to London next month to start my studies.”
