World Scholar’s Cup – reaching the Finals again

It is with delight and much pride that I write to tell you the achievements of a very special group of students here at BVIS Hanoi. Our World Scholar’s Cup team of 24 students plus one volunteer “Student Coach”, Khanh Minh Tran, their Coach Ms Claire Bower and Ms Tran TA set off on September 5th for the Global Round in Manila, Phillippines.

World Scholar Cup

All had qualified for this prestigious academic competition in the earlier Hanoi Round at the end of May 2019. Students had been studying hard since January on the theme “A World on the Margins” and were very excited for the Manila round with over 1500 scholars from 30 different countries attending. This round was very important as qualifying teams would go on to attend the Global Finals at Yale University this 8th to November 13th.

In Manila, our students participated in the following events:

-             Scavenger Hunt

-             The Scholar’s Bowl

-             Collaborative Writing

-             Scholar’s Challenge

-             Team Debate

It was a very challenging competition with many well-established international schools from around the world participating but our students were well-prepared and were a great credit to BVIS Hanoi.

I am therefore very pleased to announce that 12 of our students qualified for the Tournament of Champions round in the USA this winter:

Year 9:

Phu Minh Do

Vu Thao Linh

Maika

Ngo Minh Tu

Nguyen Nhat Ha Vi

Dang Gia Linh

Tran Anh Minh

Vu Tue Khue

Trinh Nguyen Tuan Vu

Year 10:

Ha Tien Dat

Vu Minh Trung

Nguyen Truong Khoi

Our Coach Ms Claire was also honored receiving the overall Coach of the Year Award.  Very well done to her for her commitment and dedication

Please join us in congratulating the team on this fantastic achievement, many thanks to Ms Thuy TA, Ms Tran Head TA and to all the supporting parents who came on this trip.
