Safeguarding and Child Protection
At BVIS Hanoi, we believe that ‘a child’s welfare is paramount and each student has the right to be protected from harm and exploitation and to have their welfare safeguarded irrespective of race, religion, ability, gender or culture.
Children learn best when they recognise a safe environment. We recognise that schools are particularly important in protecting students as they are in the best position to identify concerns early and provide or identify help for students as well as helping to prevent concerns from escalating.
Every member of staff (teaching and non-teaching) is required to conduct regular Child Protection and Safeguarding training, renewed every two years to keep abreast of new developments in research and best practice. Heads of Year and senior leaders from both Primary and Secondary Leadership Teams, trained to international standards in Child Protection and Safeguarding, make up the school’s Pastoral Team.
The Pastoral team in all sections of the school are experienced educators with appropriate training and understanding in handling a range of issues relating to young people.
The curriculum includes specific elements to deal with the right values that supports a happy school environment and the Positive Behaviour Framework helps to establish the expectations we have of students’ interactions.
The establishing of strong values, resilience and perseverance are important elements of the curriculum, through the PSHE Programme in all sections of the school. Open dialogue and trust are encouraged.
School Counsellor
We have a dedicated full-time member of staff, who works closely with the Pastoral Team, to deal with the concerns that students raise during the course of their social, emotional and academic development. Growing up can be a confusing time for young people. We are here to help in a non-judgmental way, to listen and provide a coaching and mentoring framework to help young people navigate life’s issues. We participate with parents in these matters to bring about best outcomes for their children and our students.
