Health and Safety

The Principal is overall responsible for all Health and Safety measures, for facilities and policies, as well as staff training, to ensure the highest standards of care and safety can be enjoyed by staff, students and parents alike.

Maintenance and Facilities staff have a joint role with academic staff to ensure the fabric of the building is regularly reviewed for potential hazards and repair needs, which are then carried out in a timely fashion.

As a school, we take our responsibilities very seriously.  Effective risk management means that we can keep any minor incidents to a minimum.

Medical Care:

Our team of qualified nurses provide first response care and are not specialist doctors. Our medical centres are open throughout the school day to meet students’ basic health needs.  We regularly train our teaching staff,  caterers, counsellors, administrative staff and management in First Aid so that we can dedicate ourselves to providing the right support at the right time

Air Quality

At BVIS Hanoi, we monitor daily the quality of air around our school campuses.  Outdoor activities may be periodically adjusted to cater for this.

All spaces where students and staff spend prolonged periods of time have air-purifying units fitted, as standard.

Fire Evacuation

The school takes seriously any potential threat to the welfare of its community.  Accordingly, all students, from the youngest to the oldest, all staff and any visitors will follow established procedures for Fire Evacuation of the buildings.  Members of the school staff are trained Fire Marshalls to assist in the case of an emergency.

Lockdown

In the case of any other threat, in addition to fire (including, but not restricted, by intruder, dangerous animals, armed robbery, hazardous materials/contamination of site, lightning/severe storms or other extreme weather conditions, Civil unrest, Terrorist activity), students and staff follow agreed protocols to keep our community safe.

Parental note: We have practiced this many times in the history of our school, but not yet experienced a live situation.  It is very important that we are all ready in the case of any emergency

Safeguarding and Child Protection

At BVIS Hanoi, we believe that ‘a child’s welfare is paramount and each student has the right to be protected from harm and exploitation and to have their welfare safeguarded irrespective of race, religion, ability, gender or culture.

Children learn best when they recognise a safe environment.  We recognise that schools are particularly important in protecting students as they are in the best position to identify concerns early and provide or identify help for students as well as helping to prevent concerns from escalating.

Every member of staff (teaching and non-teaching) is required to conduct regular Child Protection and Safeguarding training, renewed every two years to keep abreast of new developments in research and best practice.  Heads of Year and senior leaders from both Primary and Secondary Leadership Teams, trained to international standards in Child Protection and Safeguarding, make up the school’s Pastoral Team.

The Pastoral team in all sections of the school are experienced educators with appropriate training and understanding in handling a range of issues relating to young people.

The curriculum includes specific elements to deal with the right values that supports a happy school environment and the Positive Behaviour Framework helps to establish the expectations we have of students’ interactions.

The establishing of strong values, resilience and perseverance are important elements of the curriculum, through the PSHE Programme in all sections of the school.  Open dialogue and trust are encouraged.

School Counsellor

We have a dedicated full-time member of staff, who works closely with the Pastoral Team, to deal with the concerns that students raise during the course of their social, emotional and academic development.  Growing up can be a confusing time for young people.  We are here to help in a non-judgmental way, to listen and provide a coaching and mentoring framework to help young people navigate life’s issues.  We participate with parents in these matters to bring about best outcomes for their children and our students.
