Student Health & Wellbeing

To create the best learning environment, we ensure that our students are healthy, happy and safe, both in the classroom and learning virtually. Our students receive the care and attention befitting of one of the best international schools in Hanoi.

Health and Safety

Our Principal ensures the highest standards of care and safety through our Health and Safety measures, facilities and policies, as well as through our staff training.

Maintenance and Facilities staff have a joint role with academic staff to ensure the fabric of the building is regularly reviewed for potential hazards and repair needs, which are then carried out in a timely fashion.

As a school, we take our responsibilities very seriously.

Our Wellbeing Curriculum gives our students access to a full range of activities and resources designed to keep their minds and bodies healthy, particularly while studying from home in a virtual school environment.

The curriculum was developed from the most up-to-date academic research working with world-leading schools in the field of positive education, and supports the growth of social and emotional competencies associated with greater health, wellbeing and better achievement.

It gives them social, physical and psychological empowerment, and the necessary tools to not only enjoy the great moments in life, but to also ‘bounce back’ in times of adversity.

Medical Care

Our team of qualified nurses provide first response care. Our medical centres are open throughout the school day to meet students’ basic health needs.  We regularly train our teaching staff,  caterers, counsellors, administrative staff and management in First Aid so that we can dedicate ourselves to providing the right support at the right time

Air Quality

At BVIS Hanoi, we monitor the quality of air around our school campuses daily. Outdoor activities may be periodically adjusted to cater for this.

All spaces where students and staff spend prolonged periods of time have air-purifying units fitted.

Fire Evacuation

The school takes seriously any potential threat to the welfare of its community.  All students, from the youngest to the oldest, all staff and any visitors are asked to follow established procedures for Fire Evacuation of the buildings. Members of the school staff are trained Fire Marshalls to assist in the case of an emergency.

In the case of any other threat, students and staff follow agreed protocols to keep our community safe.

Parental note: We have practiced our lockdown protocol many times in the history of our school, but have not experienced a live situation.  It is very important that we are all ready in the case of any emergency.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

At BVIS Hanoi, we believe that a child’s welfare is paramount. Each student has the right to be protected from harm and exploitation, and have their welfare safeguarded irrespective of race, religion, ability, gender or culture.

Children learn best when they're in a safe environment. We recognise that schools are particularly important in protecting students as they are in the best position to identify concerns early and provide help for students, as well as support to prevent concerns from escalating.

Every member of staff (teaching and non-teaching) is required to conduct regular Child Protection and Safeguarding training every two years to keep abreast of new developments in research and best practice. Our Heads of Year and senior leaders from both our Primary and Secondary Leadership Teams, are trained to international standards in Child Protection and Safeguarding, and make up the school’s Pastoral team.

The Pastoral team in all sections of the school are experienced educators with appropriate training and understanding in handling a range of issues relating to young people.

The curriculum includes specific elements to deal with the right values that supports a happy school environment, and our Positive Behaviour Framework helps to establish the expectations we have of students’ interactions.

Establishing strong values, resilience and perseverance are important elements of our curriculum, through the PSHE Programme in all sections of the school. Open dialogue and trust are taught and encouraged.

School Counsellor

We have a dedicated full-time member of staff, who works closely with the Pastoral Team, to deal with the concerns that students raise during the course of their social, emotional and academic development. Growing up can be a confusing time for young people.  We are here to help in a non-judgmental way, to listen and provide a coaching and mentoring framework to help young people navigate life’s issues.  We participate with parents in these matters to bring about best the outcomes.
