The students were required to take a COVID test, which luckily resulted in everyone being negative. We left Vlastina at 3pm and soon arrived at the ISP site in Prague 6. The boys warmed up and were given their last-minute instructions from the Vlastina coaches (Year 7 team - Mr. Conway, and Mr. Hayes Year 8&9).
The games kicked off at 4pm, with both teams playing 3 x 20-minute games, with official Czech football referees overseeing the games. The Year 7 team played with such a high level of skill and footballing knowledge they blew away the ISP team within the first 10 minutes, scoring 5 goals in 8 minutes. They continued this onslaught throughout the remaining 3 games finishing with a convincing 17-0 victory. What made this result even more incredible was to think this is their first ever KS3 game together after moving into the senior school just 3 weeks ago, wow!
The Year 8&9 game was much closer, with Vlastina taking a 2-0 lead in the first game, only for ISP to change their system and turn the game around, taking a 3-2 lead in the 2nd game. The 3rd and final game was very exciting, with the game flowing back and forth, we made it 3-3, then it was 4-3 to ISP, then 4-4, and in the final few minutes Vlastina scored to win the game 5-4.
The time and effort to arrange these games for the students are to experience moments like this, to see them so happy, jumping on each other, and then both Vlastina teams all celebrating together. This is the main reason we have missed these amazing sporting opportunities.
Congratulations to all boys involved, and a huge thanks to Mr. Conway for giving up his time after school to help coach his team.
