Community links and true collaboration

This Thursday, our EYFS and Primary children hosted 28 residents of Aubonne for a 'Fête des Récoltes', a tradition we weren't able to hold in recent years due to the pandemic. It's a truly collaborative and student-led event: every class from Foundation 1 through Year 6 contributes to its success, allowing our students to exercise leadership, teamwork, and service to others.

Our Foundation 1 and 2 children had created beautiful autumnal placemats. Year 1 students had created harvest gifts for our guests - hand-decorated boxes with two chocolates from local chocolatier Tristan. Year 2 students had designed and decorated menu cards in French and English. Year 3 students had prepared soup from a pumpkin that our gardening club had grown in the school garden. Year 4 students had crafted imaginative table decorations around the theme of harvest. Year 5 had prepared a delicious fruit salad and practised origami with folded napkins. Year 6 students hosted the guests, welcomed them and served them at the tables. The lunch was enriched by performances by our junior choir, a poem and humorous skits by our French A students. Finally, our Year 7 students offered our guests a tour of our school.

Head of Primary, Alison Piguet, comments: "Our Harvest Lunch is a much-loved event here at LCIS and we were delighted to be able to host it again after several years. It was a wonderful opportunity not only to celebrate the harvest but also to honour our long-standing relationships with the local community. I am certain that our children and visitors will take away many memories from this event. I would like to thank all our students for their positive and proactive attitude in preparing for the event, for their outstanding conduct during the event, and for their creativity, dedication, and wit. Of course, our class teachers deserve a round of applause too, and last but not least, we thank our community members who joined us on the day. It was a pleasure to welcome them to campus and we hope to see them again next year."
