Northbridge Grade 7 students embody the IB learner profile of a risk taker on MIA expedition A few weeks ago, our Northbridge International School Cambodia Grade 7 students went on their annual MIA trip. They were very fortunate to have been able to go to outdoor adventure centre Jombok Hoas, where they focused on team-building, protecting the environment, and embodying the IB learner profile of a risk taker.

A few weeks ago, our Northbridge International School Cambodia Grade 7 students went on their annual MIA trip. They were very fortunate to have been able to go to outdoor adventure centre Jombok Hoas, where they focused on team-building, protecting the environment, and embodying the IB learner profile of a risk taker.

Day one saw our students arrive at the centre and find their way through the trees and woodland paths to their ‘rustic’ accommodation. One they had settled into their accommodation, filled their bellies with enough food to energise them for the afternoons activities, we made our way up through the forest to our first problem solving challenge of the trip, and what a head scratcher it was. How to balance nine nails onto the head of one?

Our students thought long and hard about how it might be done, communicated with each other to encourage and advise, but sadly, despite coming so close, we were beaten. And thus our first lesson of the trip was learnt: change your mindset and think, ‘It can be done’.

This was a lesson that would remain front and centre for the duration of the trip. Our students could be heard shouting encouragement to each other through the trees: ‘You can do it! You’re so close! Keep going. You can make it!’.

Throughout the trip our students continued to amaze and astound us with their bravery, camaraderie and overwhelming positivity in the face of adversity. They climbed trees, swung on a trapeze, scaled a climbing wall and survived a perilous swing bridge crossing. They danced on cables, roasted marshmallows and ziplined to the end of their trip with smiles, snacks and shouts of ‘Yes you can!’.

We are so proud of you all Grade 7 and hope that you continue to develop your growth mindset and stay positive.
