Early Years and Primary Open Class

Early Years and Primary Open Class - early-years-and-primary-open-class
Early Years and Primary Open Class

It was a pleasure to invite all of our parents, from Pre-Nursery to Year 6, into school to learn the Léman way during our recent open classes event.

Our open classes event was designed to encourage parents to be a part of the class and learn along with their child. This enabled parents to observe how our teachers teach, and how their children learn.

At Léman we are different to traditional schools and aim to provide hands-on learning experiences, which engage and inspire students to think for themselves and learn at depth rather than breadth.

In Year 3, parents were engineers for the day, designing and building earthquake proof structures, and testing their durability, as children continued their learning about our "Active Planet."

Year 1 parents were part of position and direction maths lessons, being guided by their children through outdoor grids as children worked their way through our rigourous Maths curriculum, based on the English National Curriculum, one of the most rigourous in the world.

Parents in our Reception classes learnt how to read and write using phonics while Nursery and Pre-Nursery parents deepened their understanding of the continuous provision and learning through play using our EYFS framework.

Year 2 parents had the pleasure of hands-on maths, as they expereinced how children first learn how to weigh using nonstandard units, before moving on to use standard units, while Year 4 parents used iPads to hunt down the unlock code, helped by their children's currency calculation skills.

Children in Year 5 planned scientific investigations to test air resistance, encouraged by their parents to think deeper about variables and fair testing, while Year 6 parents saw how our oldest children collaborate and share their learning using technical maths vocabulary while investigating shape and space.

All our children enjoyed working alongside their parents, and our teachers we very excited to offer this glimpse into your child's everyday life at school. We plan to host open classes in Term 1 next academic year so parents are able to once again learn the Léman way!

Thank you to all those parents who joined us, and to those who could not make it, we will look forward to welcoming for our next open class event in Term 1.
