In Pre-Nursery, we see literacy as the joyful beginning of each child’s communication and love for language. Our focus is on nurturing curiosity, enjoyment, and confidence around words, sounds, and stories.
We share books together every day, encouraging children to listen, look closely at pictures, and join in with familiar phrases. They love sensory and flap books, which encourage a hands-on approach to stories and help engage their curiosity and sense of touch.
During our regular trips to the library, the librarian reads them a story, creating a special and engaging experience that fosters a love for books and listening. The children also begin to understand how books are chosen, borrowed, and cared for — helping them see themselves as readers from the very start.
We also learn nursery rhymes and simple songs, supporting early language development, rhythm, and memory.
Children enjoy mark-making and drawing freely, expressing their ideas and imagination without rules at this stage. This open exploration helps build fine motor skills and lays the foundation for early writing in a fun, pressure-free way.
These shared experiences help children build vocabulary, tune into sounds, and develop the foundations of early reading and writing — all within a playful, engaging environment where stories and creativity come to life.
