188 Awards! World Scholar's Cup 2024

188 Awards - 188 Awards

The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is an international academic competition that was founded in 2006 by Daniel Berdichevsky. The competition aims to motivate students to discover new interests and develop critical thinking skills across various disciplines, including science, literature, history, and the arts.

188 Awards - 188 Awards

The World Scholar's Cup consists of four main components:

  • Team Debate: Teams of three students engage in structured debates on various topics. This helps participants develop their public speaking and argumentative skills.
  • Scholar's Challenge: This is a multiple-choice test that covers a broad range of subjects, testing students' knowledge in areas such as science, history, literature, and art.
  • Collaborative Writing: Teams collaborate on writing tasks that require them to work together to express their ideas effectively. This promotes teamwork and communication skills.
  • Team Bowl: A fast-paced quiz competition where teams compete against each other to answer questions on a wide array of topics.

188 Awards - 188 Awards

The World Scholar's Cup hosts regional rounds worldwide, leading up to the global round, which brings together participants from various countries. The global round typically involves additional activities, cultural events, and opportunities for students to interact with peers from diverse backgrounds. This Years Regional round was held at The Walton School, Chengdu.

Participating in the World Scholar's Cup provides students with the chance to explore different subjects, enhance their research and presentation skills, and engage in intellectual discussions with students from around the world. The competition has gained popularity for its unique approach to fostering a love for learning and promoting global collaboration among students.

The regional round took place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January. I am exceptionally proud to say that students across the Primary and Secondary sections of our school were exemplary in their performances, coming home with a record number of medals and trophies.

In celebration of our student's success, they were all invited to an awards lunch on Monday with the Principal, Mrs. Connor, the Head of Primary, Mr. Dolan, and the Head of Secondary, Mr. Highdale. Mrs. Connor spoke to the students at the lunch, speaking of her pride in their achievements and how important it is to be a risktaker and be involved in such events.

The World Scholars Cup gave our students the perfect opportunity to showcase the knowledge skills and understanding they have gained from their LIS education. Being able to think critically, problem-solve, and collaborate are all key skills that are taught every day throughout our school. Skills that played a crucial role in our students' success.

Congratulations to all students who took part in this very special event! We look forward to the global challenge next!
