My Tanzania Trip

My Tanzania Trip - My Tanzania Trip

Eason W.

Year 8 at Léman

I just went on the Nord Anglia trip to Tanzania, and I am going to share everything that happened on this trip.

My Tanzania Trip - My Tanzania Trip

Day 1: Safari

After 17 hours of travelling, we finally arrived at Tanzania, and the first thing that we did was to go on a safari. The safari is in the National Park of Tanzania. We saw many animals in there, monkeys, lions, elephants and so much more. But as the sun started getting lower and lower, our team ate dinner and slept in the African bush, in the national park.

Day 2: Socializing With Locals

Today we spent most of our time talking with the local Tanzanian people. My favorite part of the day was when we went to the organization of The Shanga Project. This is an organization that employs disabled people to help make product that are in favor of the environment. I enjoyed the tour and even bought 38 dollars’ worth of souvenirs.

Day 3 & 4: Building the School

On day 3 & 4, we started to help build more classrooms at Dolly Bush Primary School. I have never mixed cement, nor have I built a wall before, so this is a first for me. These 2 days were the most tiring of the entire trip. But whenever I feel like giving up, I think of all the children that will be so happy to use their new classrooms. And this gives me the courage to keep going. On the 4th day, I feel like I have accomplished a lot and gave the children more education space.

Day 5: Coffee

Today we visited a local coffee plantation, and we saw how beans from a coffee tree became the coffee that we drink. We also went on a little hike around one of the local villages that made coffee. They allowed us to drink some iced coffee for free at their gift shop, and it was so good I drank two glasses. I also bought some chocolate covered coffee beans for my family.

Day 6: Helping the Community

Our main goal today is to build a goat shed, complete with a ramp, windows, a roof, and a food bowl. We had to saw and hammer everything together ourselves. When they put the goats inside, I couldn’t help but feel a little proud of what I had accomplished.

At night we had a dance party. I was never able to dance properly, so I’m a little biased about the dance party. Even though I was biased, I can still tell that it was an awesome dance party. The atmosphere was lively, everyone was dancing and forming circles. It was super fun. But it also means that my trip has come to an end. This trip has made me realize how lucky I am to have such good living conditions and good education, when the children in Tanzania must work twice as hard as me just to graduate primary school. And now, when I am writing essays and doing homework, and I feel like giving up, I think of these children, and this motivates me to keep going. I will tell my classmates what a wonderful experience this was, and hopefully, my classmates will come next year to experience their culture, their habits, and their world.
