Meet Anna Olasimbo.

#FeatureOurTeacher is an exciting NAS Abu Dhabi community series that will give you a chance to get to know our outstanding educators – their thoughts, ideas and experiences.

CAN YOU SHARE A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR CAREER BACKGROUND?

After I gained my bachelor's degree in early childhood studies in the UK, I carefully honed my skills working in premium nurseries throughout London. Following such a strong foundation with young learners, I became a qualified primary teacher with Schools Direct Salaried Training. Now I enjoy developing and driving school PE standards.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT ABU DHABI?

Abu Dhabi is a vibrant city known for its multicultural environment. I appreciate the diversity, because it allows rich cultural exchanges and a broader perspective in the classroom. The city's education system is continually developing, too, and I love how it focuses on providing quality education and emphasises continuous improvement.

WHAT EXCITES YOU THE MOST ABOUT JOINING NAS ABU DHABI?

Innovative teaching and learning, with cutting-edge resources, technology integration, and research-based instructional strategies! This will mean that our classes can be more engaging and impactful to inspire our students’ curiosity and critical thinking.

I’m also looking forward to collaborating with colleagues from different parts of the world, participating in global projects, and enhancing my international perspective and understanding.

I strongly believe in a balanced education, too, and as a primary teacher, I’m looking forward to creating a nurturing an inclusive learning environment.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST PASSIONATELY ABOUT IN EDUCATION?

I’m passionate about reading and physical education – it not only opens many doors in life but also nurtures and fosters children’s imagination and creativity. I love getting my students involved with the latest books and comics, as well as my childhood favourites.

I also have a huge interest in sports. Sport helped me build confidence as a child, improve my communication skills and work well with others. I think these skills are important – they’re transferrable across all subjects. Outside of work, I’m deeply passionate about things that bring joy, growth, and connection. And sport ignites a fire within me, inspiring teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

And I love the power of inclusion, advocating for a world where everyone feels valued and embraced, regardless of their background, abilities, or identities. From a young age, reading not only fuelled my imagination, but also helped me explore diverse perspectives and gain empathy. And representation empowers people to see themselves reflected in society, fostering a sense of belonging and inspiring future generations – I’m passionate about that, too.

WHAT HOBBIES DO YOU HAVE? WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THEM?

In my free time, my hobbies bring me happiness and fulfilment. I’ve played netball since childhood – I enjoy being part of a team, and feeling agile and competitive.

Music is another passion of mine - I find solace and inspiration in the harmonies and melodies that resonate with my soul.

Whether it's losing myself in a captivating novel or delving into thought-provoking non-fiction, reading stimulates my mind and transports me to different worlds.

Pilates is my go-to activity for strengthening my body and improving flexibility, providing a sense of balance and tranquility.

Above all, spending time with my loved ones holds a special place in my heart. Whether we're engaging in shared interests or simply enjoying each other's company, these moments create cherished memories and strengthen the bonds that define my happiness.

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR?

I’m immensely grateful for the blessings that have enriched my life! At the core, lies the gift of life itself – I love experiencing the wonders of existence. And alongside this, I also hold a deep appreciation for my mother, whose unwavering support and boundless love have shaped me into who I am today. My friends and family bring me joy, laughter, and shared experiences, too, that add vibrant colours to the tapestry of my life. And lastly, I’m grateful for teaching - a source of purpose and fulfilment. Teaching allows me to share my skills, contribute to society, and embark on a journey of personal and professional growth.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ONCE THE SCHOOL OFFICIALLY OPENS IN AUGUST?

I’m excited to meet all the children, and creating an inclusive happy learning environment! I’m looking forward to welcoming them to our school and working with my new colleagues, too.
