A Day of Cultural Celebration
NAS Abu Dhabi recently transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural and linguistic celebration. Our World Languages Day event, organised by the Modern Foreign Language Department, showcased the rich tapestry of French, Spanish, and German languages. This festive day of learning was a testament to our commitment to cultural and linguistic education.
Embassies and Special Guests
The event drew significant attention and participation from several embassies, including France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Mexico, Colombia, and Burkina Faso. Representatives from these embassies met with our Senior Leadership Team, attended an engaging assembly, toured the campus (including a preview of phase 2 set to launch in August 2024), and explored the diverse activities organised for the day.
We were also honoured to host special guests from Sorbonne University, Headway Language Institute, UCAM Español Institute, Goethe Institute, and Alliance Française. Their involvement added a wealth of engaging activities tailored to different year groups, enriching the experience for students and families alike.
The Cultural Station
One of the standout features of the event was the Cultural Station, a lively hub of diverse activities and displays. Among the highlights was an exhibition on the Arabic heritage in Spain, courtesy of the Embassy of Spain. The station also included a fantastic art gallery showcasing works by students from FS1 to Y8. These artworks, inspired by masterpieces from French, Spanish, and German artists, beautifully linked art, culture, and language, reflecting our commitment to fostering creativity and curiosity.
Spectacular Assembly Performances
The assembly was a true spectacle, featuring performances by students from Y1 to Y8. Our talented students danced, sang in French, Spanish, and German, and even played the Djembe. Professional dancers from Mosaic Dance and Music Institute and Capital Dance Center added to the excitement with their stunning performances.
Our Commitment to Global Understanding
At NAS Abu Dhabi, we are dedicated to promoting global understanding and cultural appreciation through our comprehensive World Languages Programme. This programme includes French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin alongside English, the language of instruction, and Arabic, which is part of the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum. Starting in the Foundation Stage, our young learners embark on an extraordinary linguistic journey, introducing them to these languages.
The Importance of Early Language Learning
Early exposure to multiple languages isn’t just about acquiring linguistic skills—it’s about opening doors to the world. By learning different languages, our students develop empathy, cultural awareness, and a global mindset—qualities that are essential in today's interconnected world. This early immersion helps students become more adaptable, open-minded, and better prepared to engage with diverse cultures and perspectives.
Positive Feedback from Our Community
The feedback from parents, students, and guests was overwhelmingly positive. All embassy representatives expressed their gratitude for the invitation and their admiration for our efforts in promoting multicultural understanding.
NAS Abu Dhabi's World Languages Day was a resounding success, showcasing the power of community and the importance of fostering global connections. Our dedication to celebrating cultural diversity and linguistic education was evident throughout the event, making it a day to remember.
