Our Key Stage 1 curriculum is designed to keep our students interested and engaged in their learning and to ensure that there is continuation and progression from our Early Years programme. Our broad and balanced UK curriculum adapted to our local setting ensures progression and continuity for your child and is enhanced with trips, visitors, art projects, theme weeks and specialist teaching that is adapted each year to meet the needs and interests of the current students.
Physical development is important at this age and our students swim, dance, take part in gymnastics and team games. Our classrooms are bright and engaging, reflecting the current unit of work and the student's continuous learning. Literacy and numeracy tools cover the walls, immersing children in language and acting as scaffolding to reinforce concepts.
We use Read Write Inc, a phonics based approach to learning to read and write. Students learn to recognise and read sounds, then blend them together to form words.
We teach maths in a purposeful, practical way and students will use play and exploration to acquire mathematical skills. A large majority of mathematical work is hands-on and learning happens in many different contexts around the classroom and outside.
We involve you in your child’s learning wherever possible and offer workshops so you can support your child's learning at home. Students receive some homework in these years predominantly in numeracy, spelling and humanities.
