I decided that I wanted to become a PE Teacher during my A-levels at school, as the subject was the highlight of my week and the teachers in the PE Department inspired me!
I completed my B.Ed (Hons) in PE and Maths at the College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth and graduated in 2002. From there I moved to East London where I taught at a very successful Secondary school for 12 years. At this school I taught GCSE and A-level PE, as well as being a Head of Year and also becoming an Assistant Headteacher.
Following the birth of our son, my wife and I decided that our passion for our jobs and travel may be best served by living in a new country that we could use as a base to explore a new region. We were very lucky in getting jobs at another Nord Anglia Education school in Hong Kong, where we were founding staff members, and had a very enjoyable 6 years working. I have taught from Year 1 to Year 12 in Hong Kong including IBDP SEHS and been on a number of sports trips across the China region and also to Vietnam and Phuket. Along with teaching PE, I have been a Head of House and also held positions within the Senior Leadership Team.
When we decided to look for a new challenge, BIS Abu Dhabi was highly recommended by the Principal of NAIS Hong Kong and he told my wife and I of the high reputation the school has within Nord Anglia Education. This immediately attracted our attention and on speaking to friends in the UAE and doing some research, we were very excited by the prospect of working at the school.
