I graduated from The University of the West of England, Bristol in 2001 with a BA (hons) Qualified Teacher Status degree. I taught for 10 years on the Isle of Wight, a beautiful island in the South of England. During those 10 years I was lucky to gain experience teaching and leading The Foundation Stage, teaching Years 1 and 2 and coordinating and teaching sport for KS1 & 2. I was also part of the Senior Management Team that enabled me to see the other side of classroom teaching.
My passion in education truly lies with observing and developing younger children as they grow and learn. I believe it is the most rewarding place to teach within any school and still believe this after teaching both in the UK and internationally. Moving overseas 8 years ago was probably the hardest thing we as a family have ever done and taking 2 young children with us was a challenge. However, it was the best decision we have ever made both for me personally and also for my family. Our boys, now 13 and 10 years old have lived 6 years in Shanghai, China and have just completed 2 years in Abu Dhabi. This international perspective on education has done them the world of good and I certainly wouldn’t change it!
Whilst in Shanghai, I taught a Year 1 class for four years and then a Reception (FS2) Class for 2 years at the BIS Abu Dhabi’s sister school, BISS Puxi Shanghai. Since starting BIS Abu Dhabi I have worked in both FS1 and FS2.
I love to travel and explore new places and living in Asia for 6 years allowed us to visit many beautiful and exciting countries. It has been important for me to allow my sons to experience different cultures as they have grown up and learn respect and understanding towards different cultures. We have continued to explore different experiences since living in Abu Dhabi and still have lots more on the wish list!
