Helen Davies

Year 3 Teacher

Mrs Davies has Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Studies from The University of the West of England in Bristol and PGCE in 2014 from Northampton.

After completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Studies at The University of the West of England in Bristol, I wanted to gain some experience in schools and so worked as a classroom assistant for three years in a key stage 2 school. Working there confirmed my desire to become a teacher and I completed my PGCE in 2014 in Northampton.

Since 2014, I have been teaching year groups across key stage 2. One school gave me the opportunity to work alongside a colleague to lead maths, which resulted in me attending many maths courses for my professional development. One course which I was particularly interested in was Dyscalculia which enabled me to support children who need specific support with number. The experience with maths has enabled me to support new teachers within my year group in other schools with ideas on how to engage children with their times tables. This has led to success with the trial for the Year 4 Multiplication Check in one of the schools, being in the top 10% in the country.

From the age of 3 to 14, I took part in different styles of dance, including ballet, tap, rock and roll, street and disco. Alongside my dancing, I also took part in sports clubs, one, in particular, being athletics. This led me to compete for Milton Keynes, taking part in the sprinting and hurdles events. I enjoy running regularly and hope to continue doing so when in Abu Dhabi.

At the age of 14, I moved to Dubai with my family. I lived there for two years, completing my GCSEs at The English College, moving back to Milton Keynes in 2004. I wanted to pursue a BTEC National Diploma in Early Years which meant that I had to move back to the UK to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed living in Dubai and have had the desire to move back to the UAE ever since.

BIS Abu Dhabi has a great reputation amongst people I know who live in Abu Dhabi. It was recommended to me that I applied for a job at the school, and so eagerly waited for one to be advertised. The school offers outstanding facilities for students, with access to advanced technology. This enables them to communicate with schools around the world and for students to experience a range of cultures. I am delighted to be returning to the UAE and look forward to joining the Year 3 team.
