My journey into Primary teaching began after my first degree in the Arts. I undertook a TEFL course and moved to South Korea to teach English to children from 4 to 14 years of age at a private language school. It was there I met my husband, caught the travel bug, and developed a love of teaching.
After some travelling, I embarked on a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education with Edinburgh University and went on to teach in Upper Key Stage 2 with an outstanding school. I returned to Ireland and completed a course of study on the Irish language. I taught in Early Years and Key Stage 1 for several years in a brand-new school in Dublin. I coordinated the Music and History curriculum, had responsibility for the Green School’s Programme and ran annual Book Week events and fairs.
When my husband and I decided to move internationally, we joined BISS Puxi, Shanghai and I worked in Key Stage One. Whilst there, I facilitated Teacher Learning Communities for staff’s professional development across different stages of the Primary school.
My husband and I decided to move closer to home and joined BIS Abu Dhabi in 2015, staying with Nord Anglia. I worked in Year 1, leading a team of nine teachers before departing temporarily to have my own little boy and girl. Upon my return, I joined the Year 5 team and have enjoyed being back in Upper Key Stage 2.
I am a proud Irish woman and hope to raise my children to speak the Irish language and take an interest in the culture of the nation. Life with two very young children is extremely busy, and I spend most of my time indulging in their interests. When I do have my own free time I like to read, listen to podcasts and craft. I am passionate about travelling and enjoy learning about new cultures.
Nord Anglia Education has an outstanding global reputation and I have been fortunate to have been with the company since 2011. BIS Abu Dhabi has grown in success year after year and stands out for its welcoming and warm community. I am proud to be a part BIS Abu Dhabi and privileged to teach the fantastic cohort of students the school attracts.
