I taught English in the UK for 6 years after completing my PGCE at Manchester University in 2011. I moved to Dubai to teach in 2018 in order to see the world and explore a new and exciting culture. I have enjoyed Dubai but I was very excited to move to Abu Dhabi and work at BIS Abu Dhabi because it’s such a fantastic, warm and dynamic community to be a part of.
After graduating with a BA Combined Honours in English and Sociology degree in 2003, I worked as a Communication Support Assistant with Deaf and Multiple and Complex Special Needs pupils at Manchester Royal Schools for the Deaf. I had learnt British Sign Language at night school whilst studying for my degree. After working within a range of special educational needs settings, I decided that I wanted to qualify as a Teacher of English. I have always been inspired by literature and drama and I wanted to pass this passion into others.
During my teaching career thus far, I have taught English and Drama to KS3 and KS4. I also teach Language and Literature to KS5. I love the variety that teaching English gives. Whilst teaching in Dubai, I qualified as an Award Leader, Adventurous Journey Supervisor and Assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award which is great fun.
I am extremely active and enjoy cycling, swimming, paddle-boarding, boxing and running. I have taken part in a range of sporting challenges including half marathons, open water swims and long-distance cycling challenges.
I am excited about having a new adventure in Abu Dhabi and I cannot wait to explore more of the Middle East and travel. I would really like to complete The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) course this coming year so that I can scuba dive all over the world!
