English Teacher and BISAD Diploma Coordinator (Secondary)

Mrs Grange completed her BA(Hons) in English Literature and History of Art at University of Leicester after which she began her Masters in English at The University of Essex. She gained her PGCE from The University of Essex and did her teacher training through SCITT; meaning she was able to work alongside studying and learn from the beginning, the expectations and demands of a modern teaching environment.

Following the completion of my training year, I taught English Language and Literature across the Key Stages and Media Studies A- Level in Clacton, Essex. My role within the school progressed from NQT mentor, Literacy Across the Curriculum Lead, Aspirant AST and Assistant Head of English and Literacy. I was asked to run seminars for the Trainee Teacher Consortium in Assessment for Learning, Differentiation and embedding Literacy challenge. In addition, I worked with local primary schools to help develop rigor into their curriculums as well as ensure a smooth transition to secondary school for their students. I ran summer literacy camps around the UK and school holiday revision sessions for those under- achieving and those wanting to improve their grades.

After 4 years, I moved schools to the largest school in Colchester, Essex. I was quickly promoted to Assistant Head of English. Within this remit, I was responsible for KS4 and English Intervention. Alongside this substantive post I also marked for Cambridge, Edexcel and AQA for GCSE and A- Level papers. I ran a pilot with King’s College London into a ‘Cognitive Acceleration Programme’ and worked with The Prince’s Trust Institute. These varying roles and covetable experiences have afforded me the opportunity to hone my classroom practice, learn from others’ expertise and help develop newly qualifying teachers in both Primary and Secondary schools around Essex and the UK.

In 2017 my young family and I moved to the UAE to teach at BIS Abu Dhabi and became the English department’s lead for Gifted and Talented. In 2018 I also became the BISAD Diploma Co-Ordinator (which is a non- academic achievement award). Alongside this I have begun studying for my SENCo qualification.
