I started my teaching career at an inner city school In Kingston Upon Hull; Yorkshire. Here I became I member of the Geography department and began to develop an interest in children with learning difficulties. I took my Diploma in Special Educational Needs and continued to develop pastoral interest through becoming the Head of Year 9 and reaching TLA level 2.
When an opportunity arose to experience a role as Head of Department in Qatar I found myself excited by the thought of a new challenge and the unusual opportunity of travel.
I moved to Qatar and became Head of the Humanities department there for two years experiencing many different curriculums and becoming qualified as a Middle Year Programme teacher. I also began teaching IB Diploma Geography.
After two years of Doha I found the urge to travel again and had the opportunity to return to the British Curriculum which I really enjoy teaching. I took that opportunity and have again progressed through the school to hold the position of Head of Humanities at the British International School Abu Dhabi.
Very few people know that I am actually a qualified dance teacher and this is how I came to begin my career. I love to watch and take part in any dance (though my passion is the ballet) and have done since the age of 3 years old!
Coming from Hull means that I enjoy watching Rugby League though do not follow a particular team. I am an avid reader and I love to cook for friends (though the dishes are not always successful!!) .
Since arriving in Abu Dhabi I have begun to take part in a lot of exercise classes and really enjoy boxing down at the gym and playing netball with the girls – I use the term playing very loosely!
