I have always had a passion for mathematics and problem solving. After completing my degree in Civil Engineering at Durham University, I took a year out, where I travelled round Europe and stumbled on to an opportunity to work at an International School in southern Germany. This was my first opportunity to teach and support students with both their Mathematics and Science work in both German and English. I very quickly discovered that I had a passion for teaching and knew that Mathematics was what I wanted to teach.
I returned to the UK to complete my PGCE in Mathematics at the University of Worcester. Working in two contrasting schools in the area. I then taught at the prestigious Millfield School for 6 years, where I taught my beloved Mathematics to a wide range of abilities and groups. Along with my teaching, I also coached elite sports teams to a national level, ran evening activities, briefly ran the boarding programme, was a Prefect Team Leader and also an Assistant Housemaster in the boarding house. This wide range of responsibilities kept me very busy, but allowed me to truly get involved in all aspects of school life, which I also hope to be able to do at BIS Abu Dhabi.
After Millfield I moved to the highly academic Merchant Taylors' School, where I was able to really stretch students' understand of Mathematics, whilst continuing to coach sports teams a high level and take on other leadership roles within the school.
I was drawn to the diverse culture and world of opportunities in Abu Dhabi, and in particular to work for such a reputable school, part of the well-known Nord Anglia Education group.
In my free time I am a keen sportsman, both playing and following. I like to discover new places or cultures and can often be found travelling to new countries in my spare time.
