Art: GCSE Artists’ and Photographers’ Mock Exam

Year 11 Artists and Photographers have been creating personal and informed responses under controlled conditions.

The Year 11 GCSE Art and Photography exams are 10 hours long and usually spread over two school days. On Wednesday 30 January our students started their controlled test, during which they create a personal outcome, based on the research and investigation they have been doing over the last two months. Their theme has been “Fragmented” and we have been highly impressed with the range of creative responses. Furthermore we have been impressed with our students’ resilience in the face of pressure. Not only is this a test of stamina and creative problem solving, but this year we have met the challenge of the school closure due to poor air quality, which happened exactly halfway through their exam. The students will resume their exam during next week. Here are some images of our 32 young creatives hard at work in the new art studios, alongside some of their work in progress, including Ashwin Sachdev’s appropriately timed photographic response to the increasing pollution.

Artist of the Week

Our artist of the week at St Andrews International School Bangkok this week is Year 11 photographer Gunn Shreshthaputra. His current work uses strong colour and digital manipulation to create a quality of fragmented reality. Here is a selection of studies from his exam work in progress.
