Our Year 6 interact and learn by play with FS2, FS3 learn all about technology and Year 6 get artsy with biographies. Also, who were the St Andrews Times Tables Rock Stars?  And finally, look at what the teachers and admin team got up to on Inset Day.

In Miss Meg’s class this week we saw some Year 6 students come over to support the students in their play. Through play, the children learn to socialise, count, communicate and use their imagination along with many other skills. Year 6 students learn leadership and care skills by interacting with the younger students. It is so good to see our students from different age ranges work together.

Foundation Stage 3

The implementation of different types of technology in the classroom supports students who are actively engaged with learning and builds pathways for differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of students as individual learners.

In FS3 this term children are learning to become increasingly independent in using Seesaw as a tool to consolidate their learning in both Phonics and Maths. Children have also been introduced to the Bee Bots which are perfect for learning control, directional language and programming. As well as these two different learning tools we have introduced "Osmo" to the children. This term merges tactile exploration with innovative technology, actively engaging children in their learning.

Year 6

During the last topic Year 6 students looked at Biographies. As part of the topic they drew portraits of famous people they were studying. I’m sure you’ll agree that the standard of the sketching is very high. These are now on display in the Year 6 area. Can you identify any of the famous people?

Times Tables Rockstars!

Times Table Rock Stars - Rest of the World Rocks 2021

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting in our school, we took part in a friendly competition involving schools from around the world last week. It was all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, the children earned their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform then calculated the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who played during the competition hours). The winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

Here are the results:

Teachers INSET Day

Last Friday saw the teachers having a training day at the school. The first part of the morning was spent looking at students’ books from Year 1 all the way up to Year 6. Teachers met together and discussed the progression of writing and Maths throughout the school, this process helps teachers plan for the future as they gain more knowledge on where the students need to reach in terms of quality and content. Teachers gain knowledge from each other on how to reach these goals also.

There were two other main sessions during the day: one focussed on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and the other on Data Protection. With regards to the focus on equality, teachers worked in groups to discuss what the school already does well regarding equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the school and also what the next steps in promoting these three topics into our school system. The second session focussed on how we protect collected data around the school. There were talks from many of our office staff that shared their very good practices regarding data protection.

In the afternoon staff from both campuses had the opportunity to meet together to play some team sports. It was great to see colleagues from both campuses playing together and having fun and forming strong relationships.
