A Beginning

  • The Wonder of Learning - Week 1

This is our intention for our Early Years Centre – for it to be a special place where everyone, adults and children are invited to explore, to grow in heart and mind and to belong to a community. And so a brand new year in the Early Years Centre begins, a new story full of hope and possibilities. Over this first week we have been tremendously touched by the bravery shown by the children as they cross the threshold of the classrooms and enter into this unknown space. Some children run in eagerly with great energy, some are more tentative, some are quite wary. With each day, we observe with pleasure the gradual confidence each child displays, deepening his or her relationship with things and people.

The action of the children begins to mold the space and the environment mirrors the new relationships that bring new ideas and continue to nourish the life of our setting. We find it is so important to spend much time observing and to listen with our hearts and with sensitivity to ways in which the children express themselves and their feelings to this new beginning. 

Some children are drawn particularly to new relationships or reconnecting with familiar friends; some are excited by the new experiences they have just encountered such as PE in the new gym or a trip to the library; some especially enjoy eating lunch with friends at school.

This is a magical start to the year as we embark on our journey together with courage and wonder.
