IB Scholarship 2018/19 This year we had incredibly strong applications for our International Baccalaureate Programme Scholarship.

We are delighted to announce Jan, Maryam, Alex and Eugenie have been awarded a two-year scholarship in our High School programme.

This year we had incredibly strong applications for our International Baccalaureate Programme Scholarship and we are delighted to announce Jan, Maryam, Alex and Eugenie have been awarded a two-year scholarship in our High School programme.

Our High School curriculum is centered on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, considered the gold standard in high school education. Our IB Programme develops the whole child by requiring high academic achievement, involvement in the arts, as well as participation in community service activities.

Partial and full scholarship opportunities are open to students from any school in the world whose exceptional academic abilities, in combination with passions in other pursuits such as the arts or sports, align with our commitment to a student’s holistic development. Scholarships in our IB Programme are awarded for a 2 year period and provide an outstanding educational opportunity for exceptional, well-rounded students.

We encourage each student at the British International School of Houston to build their own learning around unique experiences, capabilities, and interests. This transformative educational approach empowers students and not only prepares them for university and college, but also provides them with a global passport to their future.

Please join us in congratulating these four outstanding students as they continue their educational journeys in our International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.

Jan
I am a true international student and am currently in Year 12 in the IB Programme and have studied at the British International School of Houston since Year 8. I began playing Cricket at the age of eight and currently play for the USA U17 team. This has given me the chance to meet people from all over the United States, India, and Guyana, allowing me to learn about and appreciate other cultures. I have enjoyed building relationships within the BISH community and am grateful the faculty really value and cherish my education. I plan to use this IB Programme scholarship to pursue my goal of studying law at an Ivy League university. This scholarship has provided me a great opportunity to pursue my dreams both in university and beyond.

Eugenie
I’m currently a 10th grade student enrolled at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, in Grand Coteau, LA. I am an enthusiastic student and love studying the sciences and the arts, especially chemistry and music. I also enjoy participating in extracurricular activities and am on the swim, tennis, and Quiz Bowl teams, and also sing in multiple choirs and take voice lessons at the Acadiana Symphony Conservatory. I’m very excited to be joining the BISH community in the fall and honored to have been chosen as an IB Scholarship recipient.

Alex
Being born in London to a Mexican father and an American mother, I have grown up with the spirit of multiculturalism central to my life, making BISH a natural fit for me. I have thrived in an environment that fosters learning, creativity, and well-roundedness. While I strive to always maintain good grades, I also enjoy learning in many ways and exploring my interests in things like photography, music, Scouting, and basketball. I am also the president of the Interact service club, and a member of the Model UN club, the Student Investors club, and the Mock Trial club. I love my school, and I am honoured to be a recipient of the IB scholarship.

Maryam
I moved from Singapore and joined the British International School of Houston in 2007 at the age of five. The school’s international diversity as well as my travels have contributed to my awareness of global issues and my drive to organize charitable initiatives from a young age. I am also very involved in playing defense with my field hockey club, Texas Pride, and hope to continue playing at university. My ultimate goal is to be an emergency physician and hope to attend Johns Hopkins University with one of the finest pre-med programs in the country. I have already completed an intense two-week internship at Houston Methodist Hospital, shadowing the head of ER, and will participate in a Junior volunteer programme at Memorial Herman Hospital at Texas Medical Center this summer. I can’t wait to start the IB programme at BISH and am very grateful for this unique opportunity.

Scholarship applications for 2019/20 will open in October 2018.
