The Road Ahead: The Graduating Class of 2020 Find out more about The Road Ahead for our Graduating Class of 2020.

The school year is well underway, and IB (International Baccalaureate) students at British In-ternational School of Houston are feeling the effects. A calm, yet demanding junior year prompt-ed an easy transition into the year of dreams, the year before the future. Before slipping on the signature cobalt gown and slivery cap, there is much to be done. Mock exams, college applica-tions, decisions, and the infamous IB exams must be conquered gracefully before the day of high emotions floods the minds of the 2020 senior class at BISH.

While discussing the year ahead with seniors at BISH, I endeavored to find out what thoughts, worries, or excitement are on their mind currently. Freya, senior at BISH, said, “I believe it will be a challenging year; however, if I put in the work and don’t procrastinate, then I will feel generally optimistic about the year ahead.” Perserverance and determination is definitely key in any academic pursuit.

Sanaa, senior at BISH, said, “This year I am worried about being stressed and becoming sad over the matter. Ultimately, I hope to keep the targets I set for myself in the beginning.” Targets, like determination and perseverance, are useful in formulating plans prior to initiations, such as entering the IB pro-gram.

Lily, senior at BISH, said, “I can’t wait to see the experiences which are just around the the corner after graduation. We’ve worked hard throughout the IB, and it will be interesting to see how we can apply the things we’ve learnt to our future.” Having an optimistic outlook on life after the IB helps to assuage the inbred insecurity that may fill the conscious during the stressful times. As a senior myself in the IB program at BISH, I share the understanding of how stressful IB may become; however, I know that if a student puts in the work, has determination, and never undermines his/her true abilities, the road to the future will unfold easily.
