Principal's Welcome

Learn about why the British International School of Houston is one of the best private schools in Houston from Principal Andrew Derry.

Principal Andrew Derry

I am delighted to welcome you to the British International School of Houston.

We are a truly remarkable school by any measure and prepare our students to succeed wherever they come from and wherever they may go. We are very ambitious for our students and provide opportunities for them to make exceptional progress at all ages.

Our students’ IB and iGCSE results are consistently among the very best in the world. Our IB average point score this year was 35, with 22% of the class scoring 40 or above. Typically, half of our graduating class are offered places at the world’s top 100 Universities and those attending colleges in North America were awarded an average of $120,000 per student in academic scholarships, along with 30 advanced credits.

Academics, however, are only part of the story, as we recognise that we must fully prepare our students with the contemporary skills, attributes and concepts that prepare them for their fast-changing, globally connected, complex and ambiguous future.  In this regard, we are a close and supportive community of learners, with students placed firmly in the center.

This is a place where students are nurtured and guided to take ownership of their own learning, where students are engaged and actively participate in real-world learning and problem solving. It is a place where leadership is an inherent part of everything we do, where students lead by example and understand the importance of community and service to the community.

To help guide us on our journey, we have three key strategic goals that guide us:

1. Everything we do focuses on Learners and their Learning.

2. We develop and nurture the World’s Future Leaders.

3. Whatever we do, we always strive to be the Best of the Best, Globally.

In line with our strategic goals, our state-of-the-art campus was built with flexibility and collaboration in mind so that it always meets the very individual and personalized needs of our learners. It has been described as the most pedagogically advanced school building in the world.

In addition, our direct collaborations with the Juilliard School of Performing Arts, The Texas Medical Center, UNICEF and MIT provide our students with amazing opportunities to work directly with some of the world’s leading institutions.

While this website serves as a window into one of the world’s leading schools, we invite you to visit so you can personally experience our truly innovative and individualized approach to education that results in remarkable progress for all students. We are very proud of our school and we will always take the time to show you around.

I warmly invite you to contact us to take that walk around our remarkable school and meet our community.
