On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May, three of our students, Kawtar (Grade 10), Isabella (Grade 10), and Isidora (Grade 11) attended the Utrecht University Model United Nations (URUMUN) virtual conference.
This was the NAISR MUN students' second time to participate in a virtual MUN conference. It was a very unique experience as our students got a chance to meet and make friends with students from all around the world.
Our students worked tirelessly over the two days to discuss and write resolutions on the issues of "private utilization of space and space junk" as well as "ensuring universal health coverage of physical and mental health and recognition of non-western medicine".
"The URUMUN conference has to be one of the conferences written down in history books. The committees were amazing, COPUOS (my committee) had some of the most articulate and confident people. I loved being a part of a group with such awesome people! Now truly, the best part for me besides the debating was the socializing, my new-made friends and I stayed up past midnight talking about funny topics and MUN experiences. I enjoyed being able to talk to people outside of my country and timezone. Literally was such a fun experience, can't wait to do it again and hopeful in person." - Isabella
"This conference was incredibly eventful and interesting. Many points of views were shared, and the debates were strong. The community was very productive, bright, and friendly; the chairs dealt with everything very smoothly. The atmosphere was professional but that is not to say it was always tense. Everyone had spoken well, and overall I have enjoyed this conference!" - Kawtar
"Joining the URUMUN conference and experiencing once again the thrill of being part of a debate with people from all over the world was definitely a smart decision. I was in the World Health Organization committee with such great delegates who made my second MUN experience very enjoyable and interesting. Since URUMUN was organized by the Utrecht University, I got to meet university students who not only shared funny and relatable stories about MUN but also gave me advice on university and career choices, which I really appreciated. Overall I had a great time debating and in the social gathering, and I'm looking forward to participating in MUN once again. " - Isidora
Utrecht University Model United Nations (UUMUN) is a group of highly motivated and ambitious students from Utrecht who participate in Model United Nations conferences all around the world. To prepare themselves, they train regularly and host events with academics and experts. Every academic year UUMUN organises a variety of events, open for students from every study area.
